About the Opportunity

A full-time 12-month volunteering opportunity in Espiritu, Santo, Vanuatu is currently available with VSA. This opportunity includes flights, accommodation, and other expenses covered by VSA. As a VSA Volunteer, you will have the chance to open the world of books to school students in Vanuatu and make a positive impact on their lives. VSA will provide support by organizing and funding flights, visas, insurance, accommodation, living allowance, and utilities while on assignment. It's important to note that VSA Volunteers must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.

The Assignment

In this partnership assignment, a VSA Volunteer will work with trainee librarians to educate and mentor them in the skills of a qualified librarian. By enhancing literacy rates and learner agency, the volunteer will contribute to the overall development of the school community. Reporting to the SANMA Education Office Support staff and being accountable to the SANMA Provincial Education Officer, the volunteer will play a crucial role in improving educational resources for students.

The Volunteer

To be a successful VSA Volunteer, you should be someone who is passionate about making a difference, adaptable, and resourceful. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in library/information management/education or a related field, along with 5 years of experience in a library setting. Additionally, project management skills, analytical thinking, and the ability to develop systems in a low-resource environment are essential.

Vanuatu is an independent republic located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, consisting of 83 islands. Known for its volcanic origin and subtropical climate, Vanuatu faces challenges such as deforestation and water scarcity. The capital city is Port Vila, situated on the island of Efate.
