Experience Criminal Defence Law in a Supportive Environment

Are you a law student passionate about criminal defence law? Here's an excellent opportunity for penultimate-year law students to gain practical experience in criminal defence law. Join a team of experienced criminal defence lawyers at Te Tāhū o te Ture - the Ministry of Justice and be the voice of justice for those most in need.

The Opportunity

As an intern, you will have the chance to:

  • Conduct legal research
  • Draft legal documents
  • Organize files and provide administrative support
  • Observe client interviews and court appearances with permission

This internship runs from 18 November to 7 February 2025 at the Auckland City office. There are also positions available in Manukau, Hamilton, Hawkes Bay, Tauranga, Wellington, and Christchurch offices.

Skills and Experience

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Law students in their second to last year of study
  • Studying at a New Zealand university
  • Available for the entire internship period
  • Genuinely interested in a career in criminal defence law
  • Eligible to work in New Zealand

Strong communication and relationship management skills are essential for this role. We are looking for self-starters who are service-oriented and capable of handling various tasks efficiently.

Salary

The appointing salary for this role is $54,343 per annum (pro-rated for the internship duration).
