About Higher Ground Papa Taumata

Higher Ground Papa Taumata Drug Rehabilitation Trust is dedicated to providing quality abstinence-based treatment within a therapeutic community for individuals severely dependent on alcohol and other drugs. Located in Te Atatū, our residential programs are centered around 12 Step recovery principles.

The Role

As a Community Counsellor at Higher Ground Papa Taumata, you will play a crucial role in supporting clients throughout their treatment journey. Your responsibilities will include responding to pre-admission inquiries, conducting intake interviews, providing professional counseling post-residential treatment, and facilitating continuing care and group work. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with the possibility of one evening shift and occasional work on statutory holidays.

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking a dedicated individual with the following qualifications and qualities: - Strong engagement skills with clients while maintaining professional boundaries - Understanding of evidence-based practices in addiction treatment - Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment - High level of verbal and written communication skills - Commitment to Te Ao Māori and knowledge of Te Tiriti O Waitangi - Familiarity with the 12-step program and previous experience in an AOD facility is beneficial - Personal history of alcohol and drug dependence requires a minimum of 2 years of continuous abstinence

Qualifications/Experience Required

To be considered for this position, applicants should have: - Level 7 qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., Mental Health, Alcohol & Drug Studies, Psychotherapy) - Current practicing certificate with a professional body (e.g., DAPAANZ) - Minimum of 2 years' experience in a relevant social work, mental health, or AOD service setting
