Position: Remote Senior Policy Planner

Purpose of the Position

The role of the Senior Policy Planner involves overseeing policy elements within the framework of the Resource Management Act 1991. The primary focus is on shaping the District Plan, requiring adept leadership and guidance to adapt to regulatory shifts while ensuring the plan's functionality and integrity. As a senior leadership role, it entails providing direction, mentorship, and collaboration with the Team Leader – District Planning.

What the Role Entails

  • Develop and implement policies, plans, and strategies under relevant Acts.
  • Conduct public consultations on policy matters.
  • Maintain a high standard of customer service in policy development.
  • Mentor staff on policy development issues.
  • Contribute input to strategies, plans, and bylaws.
  • Manage contracts and consultants as necessary.

We’re Looking for Someone Who Brings

  • At least 5 years’ experience in policy planning.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification(s) in resource management or equivalent.
  • Experience with Environmental Court procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant Acts with a focus on plan changes.
  • Membership of professional organizations.
  • Proven interpersonal skills and ability to obtain collaboration.
  • Well organized with the ability to prioritize and work to deadlines.
