About Higher Ground
Higher Ground Drug Rehabilitation Trust offers quality abstinence-based treatment in a therapeutic community for individuals with severe alcohol and drug dependencies. The organization's main focus is an 18-week residential program based on the 12 Step recovery principles. Located in Te Atatū, Higher Ground is currently seeking a dedicated Residential Counsellor to join their team of professionals.
Job Responsibilities
- Establish relationships with clients and assist them in understanding their concerns
- Facilitate group sessions
- Maintain treatment records
- Develop and execute individual and group treatment plans
- Support and mentor Higher Ground students
Qualifications and Skills
The ideal candidate should possess:
- Passion for the industry and a positive attitude
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Various approaches to cater to individual client needs
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in group facilitation
- Knowledge of the 12-step program and AOD facilities
- Understanding of Te Tiriti O Waitangi and Te Ao Māori

Requirements
To be considered for the role, candidates must have:
- Level 7 qualification in relevant disciplines such as Mental Health or Counselling
- Current practicing certificate with a professional body
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in social work or mental health settings
- Minimum of two years continuous abstinence for candidates with personal history of substance dependence
