About Higher Ground

Higher Ground Drug Rehabilitation Trust offers quality abstinence-based treatment in a therapeutic community for individuals with severe alcohol and drug dependencies. The organization's main focus is an 18-week residential program based on the 12 Step recovery principles. Located in Te Atatū, Higher Ground is currently seeking a dedicated Residential Counsellor to join their team of professionals.

Job Responsibilities

  • Establish relationships with clients and assist them in understanding their concerns
  • Facilitate group sessions
  • Maintain treatment records
  • Develop and execute individual and group treatment plans
  • Support and mentor Higher Ground students

Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Passion for the industry and a positive attitude
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Various approaches to cater to individual client needs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in group facilitation
  • Knowledge of the 12-step program and AOD facilities
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti O Waitangi and Te Ao Māori

Requirements

To be considered for the role, candidates must have:

  • Level 7 qualification in relevant disciplines such as Mental Health or Counselling
  • Current practicing certificate with a professional body
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in social work or mental health settings
  • Minimum of two years continuous abstinence for candidates with personal history of substance dependence
