Higher Ground Papa Taumata Drug Rehabilitation Trust provides abstinence-based treatment within a therapeutic community for individuals severely dependent on alcohol and other drugs. The organization's focus is on residential programs following 12 Step recovery principles. Located in Te Atatū, the trust is currently seeking a Community Counsellor to join their team.

The Role

As a Community Counsellor at Higher Ground Papa Taumata, you will be responsible for responding to pre-admission inquiries, conducting intake interviews, formulating treatment pathways, providing ongoing support to clients throughout the pre-admission process, offering professional counseling post-residential treatment, and facilitating continuing care and group work.

What We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following qualities and qualifications: - Dedication to assisting individuals with severe substance addiction - Skills in engaging clients while maintaining professional boundaries - Strong understanding of evidence-based practices in addiction treatment - Ability to work effectively in a team environment - High level of verbal and written communication skills - Commitment to Te Ao Māori and Te Tiriti O Waitangi principles - Knowledge of the 12-step program and previous experience in an AOD facility is advantageous - Candidates with a personal history of substance dependence must have at least 2 years of continuous abstinence

Qualifications/Experience Required

To be eligible for the Community Counsellor position, candidates should have: - A Level 7 qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., Mental Health, Alcohol & Drug Studies, Psychotherapy, Psychology, Counselling, Social Work) - Current practising certificate with a professional body (e.g., DAPAANZ or other HPCA registration) - A minimum of 2 years of experience in social work, mental health, or alcohol and other drug services
