We are excited to offer a newly created opportunity to join Open Country, one of New Zealand's leading dairy manufacturers, as their first General Counsel.

About Open Country

Open Country is New Zealand's second-largest dairy manufacturer and the second-largest dairy exporter of whole milk powder globally. With a focus on quality, sustainability, and strong partnerships, Open Country exports dairy products made from high-quality New Zealand milk to over 50 markets worldwide.

About the Role

As the General Counsel, reporting directly to the CEO, you will play a pivotal role in establishing and managing Open Country's internal legal function. You will provide strategic advice on legal matters, manage risk, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing legal advice on various strategic and operational matters
• Managing internal legal systems and processes
• Supporting in areas such as commercial arrangements, corporate law, disputes, employment, and compliance
• Collaborating with stakeholders at all levels of the business

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking a qualified lawyer with a minimum of 10 years PQE in corporate and commercial law. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, strategic abilities, and excellent communication skills.

Key requirements:

• Qualified lawyer with NZ practising certificate
• Minimum of 10 years PQE in corporate and commercial law
• Significant senior level in-house experience preferred
• Strong legal analysis, negotiation, and communication skills
