Overview

Are you a motivated criminal litigator looking for a challenging and rewarding opportunity in a collaborative environment? The Public Defence Service (PDS) is seeking a Lawyer PAL1 or PAL 2 for their Waitakere office. As part of the PDS team, you will provide high-quality defence representation to legally aided clients, manage a varied caseload of criminal matters, and support intermediate and senior lawyers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality defence representation
  • Manage a varied caseload of criminal matters
  • Provide support to intermediate and senior lawyers
  • Assist in coaching and mentoring
  • Lead on a broad range of jury trial work

Skills and Experience Required

To succeed in this role, you must:

  • Have a PAL 1 approval level or the ability to promptly attain PAL 1 approval
  • Be qualified to practice law in New Zealand
  • Have the confidence to develop credibility with judges, peers, and the legal community
  • Enjoy sharing legal expertise and brainstorming ideas
  • Have empathy and the ability to relate to a wide range of people
