About the Role

The Customs Electronic Forensics Unit (EFU) in New Zealand is seeking a proactive and creative Senior Customs Officer to join their team. As part of the EFU, you will work from Customs locations in Auckland and be involved in examining electronic media and devices, as well as working in diverse environments around New Zealand. The role requires dealing with sensitive information and images, including objectionable material, so resilience and the ability to separate work from personal life are crucial.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in operational activities in the field
  • Examine electronic forensic images and content to recover digital evidence
  • Manage evidence and prepare files to an evidential standard
  • Act as a 'court expert' by writing clear reports and presenting confidently
  • Analyze electronic data, identify trends, and report intelligence for further action

Salary and Benefits

The salary band for this Grade 2 position ranges from $94,002 to $118,423, with an annual allowance for out-of-hours work. This role offers the opportunity to work with the latest technology, target criminals, and undergo challenging electronic forensics training courses. The Customs Service provides strong support systems for its teams, fostering a collaborative and learning environment.

About You

To excel in this role, you should possess quick thinking, a diagnostic mind, and proficiency in using the latest technologies and digital tools. Previous experience in electronic or digital forensics, along with knowledge of investigative techniques, is advantageous. Strong communication skills, methodical work approach, and discretion are essential qualities. Being a team player who is supportive and approachable is also valued.

Requirements to Apply

To be eligible for this role, you must be a New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident, residing in New Zealand continuously for the last 10 years. A clear Police record and the ability to obtain an Organisational Security clearance are necessary. Holding a full New Zealand driver's license and achieving a Top Secret level security clearance is also required.
