About the Opportunity

Whaikaha – Ministry of Disabled People is offering a fixed-term role ending on September 5th, 2025. At Whaikaha, we are committed to transforming how disability support services are delivered and ensuring that disabled individuals have greater choice and control over the supports they receive.

As the Forensic Coordination Service – Intellectual Disability Care Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in coordinating the safe management of tāngata whaikaha and providing appropriate disability services for offenders with an intellectual disability. Your responsibilities will include conducting assessments, identifying needs, coordinating care packages, and supporting individuals and their families to set meaningful expectations for their lives.

About You

The ideal candidate for this role will have experience working with the disability community and frontline client care, particularly with Intellectual Disability clients. Knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Intellectual Disability (Compulsory Care and Rehabilitation) Act 2003 and The Criminal Procedure (Mentally Impaired Persons) Act 2003 is essential. Strong communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders are key attributes for success in this role.

To be successful, you will need to obtain a satisfactory Children’s Worker Check, have a current full driver’s license, and be willing to travel for work occasionally. Empathy, understanding, and the ability to establish trust with the disability community are also important qualities we are looking for in a candidate.
