The Department of Conservation (DOC) is seeking a dynamic leader to drive improvements in regulatory performance and help establish a new directorate. This full-time, permanent role based in Wellington offers a unique opportunity to shape the regulatory landscape within DOC and ensure efficiency in regulatory systems.

**About the Role**

As a pivotal figure within DOC's Policy and Regulatory Services Group, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in setting the strategy for regulatory functions and creating a framework that aligns with DOC's overarching goals. The focus will be on enhancing regulatory systems to make DOC a more effective organization to work for and collaborate with.

The Director Regulatory Systems Performance will be responsible for overseeing regulatory systems, setting operational policy and regulator strategies, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. By working collaboratively with other directors and stakeholders, the aim is to deliver better services and outcomes for the conservation sector.

**What We Are Looking For**

To excel in this role, strong leadership skills are a must, particularly in managing change and regulatory system design. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of regulatory environments, including Treaty obligations, and a proven track record of achievement in a regulatory or operational policy role. Stakeholder engagement and effective communication are also key competencies required for this position.

**Skills and Experience**

- Strong leadership experience in managing change and complex delivery functions - Extensive knowledge of regulatory environments and modern regulatory practices - Ability to implement change while supporting staff and promoting continuous improvement - Understanding of DOC's role in Māori-Crown relationships and experience working with Māori as a regulator - Problem-solving skills and the capacity to integrate information for decision-making
