About the Role

Drowning Prevention Auckland (DPA) is seeking a full-time Aquatic Educator/Pouako to join their team. This unique role focuses on water safety and drowning prevention education, contributing to keeping New Zealanders safe in and around water. DPA, established in 1994, is a charitable organization dedicated to drowning prevention through education, research, and advocacy.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering drowning prevention programs across community groups and events
  • Promoting drowning prevention education through various channels
  • Integrating Te Ao Māori into daily operations and programs
  • Building strategic relationships with Iwi and relevant agencies
  • Participating in relevant meetings and seminars

Requirements

The ideal candidate for this role should have:

  • Significant understanding of Te Ao Māori and Tikanga Māori
  • Experience in watersafety promotion and drowning prevention
  • Current workplace first-aid certification
  • Full NZ Driver's License
  • Confidence in the water, including specific swimming skills

Additional desired attributes include adult teaching certification, boat skipper qualification, health and safety experience, and cultural competency training.
