Title: Community Advocate

Reports to: General Manager, Auckland Disability Law

Hours: 22.5 hours per week (0.6 FTE)

Fixed Term: 12 months

Location: Mangere, Auckland

Purpose of Position:

The Community Advocate will provide support to Deaf and disabled clients, assisting them in resolving non-legal issues. Collaborating with community groups and disability service providers is essential to deliver services effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide services to Deaf and disabled clients
  • Collaborate with disability organizations and legal professionals
  • Contribute to law reform and community engagement
  • Support the provision of legal information and advice

Requirements:

  • Strong commitment to social justice
  • Experience in advocacy environment
  • Knowledge of disability and Deaf communities
  • Excellent communication and research skills
  • Empathy towards clients' issues
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Organizational and planning skills
  • Computer literacy and driver's license

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in advocacy or mediation role
  • Work with diverse communities
  • Legal knowledge and understanding of human rights
  • Planning and delivering education sessions

Remuneration and Benefits:

Salary: $40,800 per year (0.6 FTE)
Annual leave and additional leave days
Flexible working hours
