About Higher Ground Papa Taumata

Higher Ground Papa Taumata Drug Rehabilitation Trust is dedicated to providing quality abstinence-based treatment within a therapeutic community for individuals severely dependent on alcohol and other drugs. They focus on residential programs based on 12 Step recovery principles and are located in Te Atatū.

The Role of Community Counsellor

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with a possibility of one evening shift. The responsibilities include responding to enquiries, conducting intake interviews, providing counselling post-residential treatment, facilitating group work, and more.

• Dedication to helping those with substance addiction
• Skills in engaging clients with professional boundaries
• Understanding of evidence-based practice in addiction treatment
• Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Commitment to Te Ao Māori and Te Tiriti O Waitangi
• Knowledge of the 12-step program and AOD facilities

Qualifications/Experience Required

To be eligible for this position, candidates must possess a Level 7 qualification in a relevant discipline, have a current practising certificate with a professional body, and have a minimum of 2 years of experience in a related field.
