Join Us in Tackling Climate Challenges as a Hydrogeologist/Geotechnical Engineer

Auckland Council is seeking an experienced hydrogeologist or geotechnical engineer to join our Research and Evaluation Unit (RIMU) in a unique and impactful role. As part of our team, you will play a crucial role in addressing pressing climate challenges and contributing to the resilience of Auckland's water resources.

The Opportunity

Auckland's coast, rivers, streams, lakes, and groundwater are vital to the region's well-being. As the population grows and the effects of climate change intensify, the issues of water quality and quantity are becoming more critical. In this role, you will lead monitoring and investigation programs focused on shallow groundwater systems to support the council's initiatives related to extreme event resilience, natural hazards, and climate change adaptation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing and prioritizing monitoring programs
  • Building models and conducting field investigations
  • Preparing technical reports for diverse audiences
  • Procuring and managing professional services
  • Guiding technical work in water resource management

Your contributions will be instrumental in informing strategic decisions and policies aimed at enhancing environmental and operational outcomes and bolstering Auckland's resilience to climate change and natural hazards.

About You

We are looking for a motivated individual with a postgraduate degree in hydrogeology or geotechnical engineering and a deep understanding of hydrological sciences. Your ability to analyze data, provide reliable insights, and communicate complex information effectively will be key in supporting council decisions on resilience, climate adaptation, and water resources.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Postgraduate degree in hydrogeology or geotechnical engineering
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
