About Blue Light

Blue Light is a well-established National Youth Development Organisation that collaborates with the Police, Government Agencies, and local communities to provide various youth programs and initiatives. With over 40 years of experience, we have been working diligently in the youth sector alongside our partners, the NZ Police. Otara Blue Light, a branch of New Zealand Blue Light, has been actively operating in the community for over 30 years, focusing on empowering young females through the Te Huringa o Te Tai o Nga Wahine program.

Position Overview: Whanau Support Worker

We are currently looking for a dedicated Whanau Support Worker to join our team at Otara Blue Light. In this role, you will have the opportunity to play a vital role in supporting vulnerable or disadvantaged young females and their families in the community. Your primary responsibility will involve supporting the families of the young ladies we work with, strengthening them as a unit, and enhancing the opportunities for both the youth and their families.

Role Objectives:

  • Supporting program development and implementation
  • Assisting the team of Youth Workers in coordinating and delivering programs seamlessly
  • Building relationships with families of the young people in our program
  • Ensuring proper administration and record-keeping
  • Continuous review of the program to achieve goals and make necessary adjustments

Qualifications and Skills:

To excel in this role, you should ideally possess the following:

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Proven ability to develop relationships with families of young people
  • Cultural awareness, particularly in Maori and Pacifica communities
  • Experience in managing a caseload and administrative tasks
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in reporting and documentation
  • Flexibility with working hours and a valid NZ driver's license
