With over 40 years of experience in the youth sector, Blue Light, alongside the NZ Police, focuses on empowering young individuals and creating a positive impact in society.

About Otara Blue Light

As a registered branch of New Zealand Blue Light, Otara Blue Light has been actively serving the community for over 30 years. One of the programs initiated by Otara Blue Light is the Te Huringa o Te Tai o Nga Wahine, designed to support young Maori females aged 14 – 18 years by incorporating Tikanga Maori principles to foster self-awareness, self-worth, and self-confidence.

Position Overview: Whanau Support Worker

As a Whanau Support Worker at Otara Blue Light, you will have the opportunity to contribute significantly to the well-being of young females and their families. Your role will involve supporting the families of the youth participants, enhancing their unity, and creating better opportunities for both the young people and their families.

Role Objectives

  • Support program development and implementation
  • Assist in coordinating and delivering programs with the team of Youth Workers
  • Establish relationships with families of the young participants
  • Maintain accurate administrative records and reports
  • Regularly review the program for necessary adjustments and goal achievement

Requirements and Qualifications

To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Proven experience in building relationships with families
  • Ability to connect with young people and their families
  • Cultural awareness, especially in Maori and Pacific communities
  • Experience in caseload management
  • Proficiency in administrative tasks and computer usage
  • Attention to detail in reporting and documentation
  • Background in social services or working with at-risk youth (preferred)
  • Flexibility in working hours and a valid NZ driver’s license

Application Details

This full-time fixed-term position is available until the end of June 2025. Candidates are required to have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa. The position is based in Manukau City but will receive support from both the National Team and local resources.
