Auckland Zoo is offering a unique opportunity for individuals in Aotearoa, New Zealand, and Oceania to kickstart their career in zoo animal care and wildlife conservation through a six-month paid internship program. As an intern, you will work closely with experienced keepers and veterinary staff, gaining hands-on experience in animal husbandry and conservation practices.

What the Internship Involves

During the internship, you will be immersed in the daily care of a diverse range of animal species, focusing on your taxonomic preferences where possible. In addition to practical training, you will attend lectures covering essential topics such as species planning, animal health, and conservation strategies. The program also includes a research project and a 'Species Action Plan,' providing you with a comprehensive learning experience.

Requirements for Applicants

  • Be a resident of Aotearoa, New Zealand, or Oceania
  • Hold or be studying for a degree in biological sciences/conservation, or have relevant experience in zoo animal management
  • Be willing to engage in physical work in outdoor environments and all-weather conditions

What You Can Expect
