About Waitematā Community Law Centre

The Waitematā Community Law Centre (WCLC) is dedicated to offering free legal advice to low-income individuals in West and North Auckland. The organization is passionate about ensuring access to justice for marginalized and disadvantaged members of the community.

Opportunity for Board Members

WCLC currently has openings for volunteer Board Members to join their Governance Team. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals to utilize their specialized skills and experience at a governance level while contributing to a cause that focuses on serving the community.

Desired Skills and Experience

The WCLC is seeking candidates with expertise in the following areas:

  • Finance/accounting
  • Working with Māori and/or Pacific Island communities
  • Health and Safety
  • HR
  • Law (including lawyers qualified to practice on own account)

Community Representation

Preference will be given to individuals who are representative of the community served by WCLC. Candidates should also exhibit experience or knowledge in the following areas:

  • A commitment to the principles and application of tikanga Māori, Te Ao Māori, and Te Tiriti ō Waitangi
  • Working with groups facing barriers to justice, such as Māori, Pasifika, and migrant communities
  • Supporting the operations of a social justice organization at a governance level

Responsibilities and Commitment

The Governance Team convenes once every six weeks, and Board Members are volunteers with backgrounds in either professions or community service. Ideal candidates should be knowledgeable about the challenges faced by marginalized individuals in the community and be willing to dedicate their time and skills to drive positive change.
