About The Role

The COO role actively contributes to the development of Ballantynes medium to long term plans to enhance the Company’s financial performance and deliver on its growth strategy. Responsible for finance, IT, logistics, and maintenance and property, the COO ensures the company’s operational execution delivers on strategy, while actively promoting Ballantynes’ vision and values. The role is part of the Executive Leadership Team and reports to the CEO. It has four direct reports.

As the ideal candidate, you will be an inspiring leader dedicated to creating a high-performing team and committed to the Ballantynes way leading by example and pitching in when needed. With high interpersonal skills, you will be a relationship builder, quick to build trust and respect across the executive team. You will be curious, actively focusing on possibilities and future outcomes, identifying, and overcoming barriers. You will be a strategic thinker, prepared to challenge the norm on legacy processes and present alternative ways of working using a combination of sound data, quality information, and valuable market intelligence.

You will have a good head and heart for business – valuing the importance of the Ballantynes brand and able to identify and support business growth. Commercially savvy, with a keen focus on future profitability and performance, you will be able to assess any initiative’s fit for purpose, advising on both cost benefits and future proofing. You will know the value of providing insightful, quality financial reports that ‘tell a story’ enabling informed decision-making at Executive and Board level. And, a nimble and critical thinker, you will be able to present with confidence to the Board, Audit and Risk Committee, and Shareholders.

Requirements

  • A tertiary qualification in accounting or other business-related field. (Relevant financial experience would be of value).
  • Proven experience leading high-performing finance teams that provide financial reporting and analysis at Board level
  • At least five years’ experience leading functional areas relevant to the position
  • Sound knowledge of relevant company regulations and compliance requirements
  • Experience in retail diversification would be an advantage
